Street & Roads
The Streets Division of the City of Sebring Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overall condition of the City’s roadway infrastructure. This division plays a critical role in ensuring safe and efficient transportation for residents, businesses, and visitors by maintaining streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure throughout the community.
Primary responsibilities of the Streets Division include routine maintenance and repair of City-owned streets and roadways. This includes pothole repair, pavement patching, surface maintenance, and minor roadway repairs designed to extend the life of existing infrastructure. By addressing roadway issues in a timely manner, the division helps improve driving conditions and reduce long-term repair costs.
The Streets Division is also responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters within the City. This work helps ensure pedestrian safety, proper drainage, and overall accessibility throughout Sebring’s neighborhoods and commercial areas. Staff regularly inspect these assets to identify hazards such as cracks, uneven surfaces, or damaged sections and schedule repairs as needed.
Traffic control devices are another important responsibility of the Streets Division. This includes the installation and maintenance of street signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control features that support safe and orderly traffic flow. Crews ensure that signage is visible, legible, and compliant with applicable standards. Pavement markings such as crosswalks, stop bars, and lane striping are maintained to enhance visibility and improve safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The division also maintains right-of-way areas along City streets. This includes mowing, trimming, and vegetation control to maintain visibility at intersections and ensure clear access for vehicles, pedestrians, and emergency responders. Proper right-of-way maintenance contributes to both safety and the overall appearance of the City.
Storm preparedness and recovery are key functions of the Streets Division. Prior to severe weather events, staff assist with securing equipment and preparing roadways. After storms, crews respond to clear debris from streets, remove fallen limbs, and address roadway damage to restore safe travel as quickly as possible. This work is essential to maintaining access for emergency services and the public during and after storm events.
The Streets Division works closely with other Public Works divisions, utilities, contractors, and City departments to coordinate projects and minimize disruptions. Whether supporting capital improvement projects, utility work, or special events, the division plays a central role in maintaining Sebring’s transportation infrastructure.
Overall, the Streets Division is committed to providing safe, reliable, and well-maintained roadways for the City of Sebring. Through routine maintenance, proactive inspections, and responsive service, the division helps protect public infrastructure, enhance mobility, and support the daily needs of the community.
